Sterling Engineering is looking for a Mechanical Engineer in Indianapolis, IN. This opportunity is with a high-quality engineering/design firm offering strong project variety, mentorship, and growth into senior and leadership roles.
Job Duties:
- Develop high-quality mechanical construction documents for HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, and ductwork/piping systems.
- Ensure all designs meet code requirements and technical standards.
- Support cross-discipline coordination with architects, structural engineers, and other engineering teams.
- Assist Project Managers with planning, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Participate in client meetings and design reviews, offering technical recommendations and problem-solving support.
- Conduct site visits and provide construction administration support, including verifying installation and quality.
- Prepare Basis of Design documents, specifications, and system narratives.
- Mentor and support junior engineering staff.
- Contribute to process improvements, QA/QC standards, and internal templates.
- Explore innovative, energy-efficient, and sustainable mechanical design solutions.
- Engage in professional development, training, and participation in professional organizations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5 years of HVAC design experience, ideally within professional services.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within 1–2 years.
- Experience in healthcare, government, education, or institutional facilities preferred.
- VA project experience is a plus.
- Strong experience producing construction documents for HVAC and ductwork/piping systems.
- Experience with plumbing and medical gas systems preferred but not required.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal oversight.
- Energy modeling knowledge is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to team growth.

- Revit (5 years preferred)
- AutoCAD (basic proficiency)
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Trane Trace 3D/700 or Carrier HAP (preferred)
