Sterling Engineering is partnering with a major pharmaceutical manufacturing organization supporting large-scale regulated operations and capital expansion initiatives within a highly visible production environment. We are seeking an Environmental HSE professional with strong experience supporting EPA and state environmental compliance programs within pharmaceutical, API, chemical, or highly regulated manufacturing operations.
This role is heavily focused on environmental compliance execution, field support, regulatory program ownership, incident investigations, and ensuring environmental controls are practical, sustainable, and audit-ready within active manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate is not just policy-focused — they must be highly hands-on, visible in the field, and capable of partnering directly with operations, engineering, facilities, maintenance, utilities, and EHS leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain environmental compliance programs within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Ensure compliance with EPA, IDEM, and applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, storage, labeling, and container compliance programs
- Support wastewater and stormwater environmental protection initiatives and monitoring programs
- Assist with Title V air permitting activities, reporting, inspections, and documentation
- Lead or support environmental incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and CAPA implementation
- Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and field assessments throughout manufacturing and utilities areas
- Partner with operations and engineering teams to implement practical environmental controls and sustainable compliance processes
- Maintain environmental records, permits, procedures, and compliance documentation
- Support regulatory inspections and interface directly with environmental agencies when required
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental performance and compliance readiness
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related technical discipline
- 5 years of environmental HSE experience within pharmaceutical, API, chemical, food, or regulated manufacturing environments
- Strong knowledge of EPA and state environmental compliance programs
- Experience supporting:
- Hazardous waste and container compliance
- Wastewater and stormwater programs
- Air permitting / Title V compliance
- Environmental incident investigations and CAPAs
- Experience translating environmental regulations into practical operational controls
- Strong field presence and ability to work cross-functionally within active manufacturing operations
- Experience supporting audits, inspections, and regulatory agency interactions
- Pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing industry experience
