Position: Health and Safety Engineer
Duration: 6-12 months
Location: Lebanon, IN 46052 onsite daily
I am looking for an experienced HSE Safety Engineer to support a major pharmaceutical manufacturing site during start-up, commissioning, and qualification (C&Q) activities.
This role is heavily focused on OSHA-regulated occupational safety programs, supporting the transition from construction into GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have strong field presence, experience implementing safety programs in regulated environments, and the ability to drive compliance while working closely with contractors, operations, engineering, and HSE leadership.
This is a highly visible role supporting one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing expansions in the industry.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide hands-on HSE support during facility start-up, commissioning, and qualification activities
- Support implementation and execution of OSHA-regulated safety programs
- Conduct field audits, inspections, and safety observations
- Lead and support incident investigations using structured root cause analysis methodologies
- Partner with contractors, engineering, operations, and HSE teams to resolve safety concerns
- Drive closure of corrective actions and open safety items
- Support OSHA compliance documentation and inspection readiness
- Participate in contractor safety management programs, orientations, and compliance audits
- Promote Stop-Work Authority and reinforce a strong safety culture
- Translate OSHA and site safety requirements into practical field controls within a GMP manufacturing environment
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
Education - Bachelor's Degree in one of the following:
- Occupational Health & Safety
- Industrial Hygiene
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemistry
- Industrial Engineering
- Safety Management
- Related technical discipline
- Equivalent regulated-industry safety experience will also be considered.
Experience
- 5 years of occupational safety experience within pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, specialty chemical, or highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting OSHA-regulated safety programs
- Experience supporting commissioning, startup, construction, expansion, or operational readiness activities
- Strong field-based safety leadership experience
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Experience supporting OSHA compliance and regulatory documentation
