Sterling Engineering is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer in Indianapolis, IN. This opportunity is with a top-tier engineering/design organization offering strong project diversity and career growth.
Job Duties:
- Lead electrical system design for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage infrastructure.
- Develop load calculations, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, and equipment layouts using Revit and Design Master.
- Perform voltage drop, fault current, and load calculations using Design Master or SKM.
- Coordinate utility service requirements, transformer sizing, and metering needs.
- Prepare Basis of Design documents, system narratives, and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with mechanical, architectural, structural, plumbing, and low-voltage teams.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and coordination sessions.
- Support project managers with scope development, scheduling, and client communication.
- Perform QA/QC on drawings, models, and calculations.
- Conduct field visits for construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, and punch lists.
- Mentor and support junior engineering staff.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8 years of electrical engineering experience, ideally within professional services.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within 1-2 years.
- Proficient in Revit (5 years) with experience using Design Master Electrical or SKM PowerTools.
- Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, and state building codes.
- Experience designing normal and emergency power systems, switchboards, panelboards, feeders, transformers, grounding, lighting, fire alarm systems, and low-voltage pathways.
- Ability to perform voltage drop, load, and fault current calculations.
- Experience coordinating with utility companies; knowledge of solar/renewable systems is a plus.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Experience in healthcare, higher education, federal, government, or institutional facilities is preferred.
