What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Staff position at Steps to HOPE?
Responsibilities:
1. Answer DV/SA Crisis Hotline and maintain telephone log for statistical data.
2. Process new clients into shelter and help them adjust to shelter living.
3. Provide crisis intervention in person and over the phone.
4. Provide a welcoming and comforting atmosphere for clients.
5. Maintain accurate records, including case notes for client files.
6. Assign in-house duties to clients when appropriate.
7. Process inventory and restock shelter supplies and food as needed.
8. Maintain shelter and outdoor areas (i.e., porches and play area) cleanliness.
9. Store excess and or/left behind client belongings in designated area.
10. Facilitate conflict resolution between shelter residents and/or their children.
11. Communicate with the agency’s Case Manager regarding clients’ Action Plan and assist residents in accomplishing their goals as outline therein through peer support, referral, and advocacy.
12. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding shelter residents.
13. Maintain a positive, professional demeanor and model positive parenting techniques with clients and their children.
14. Provide transportation if needed.
15. Assist clients with childcare needs during support group or educational sessions.
16. Maintain frequent positive communication with team members, share information willingly, accept and provide feedback in a supportive, non-judgmental manner.
17. Attend and participate in staff meetings and required trainings.
18. Provide support and back-up to Client Services as needed.
19. Perform other duties as requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
1. Understanding/knowledge in and of domestic violence, sexual assault, and crisis intervention.
2. Ability to establish positive and respectful working relationships with residents, staff, and community support resource, exercising patience, understanding and compassion.
3. Ability to work effectively with clients from diverse racial, cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds.
4. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
5. Act as professional representative of the agency at all times.
6. Display empathy, good judgment and active listening skills when communicating with clients.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 – 18 per week
