What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medication Specialist position at Steppingstone Incorporated?
SUMMARY: The Medication Specialist works as an integral part of the
Program Team. The Medication Specialist performs, but is not limited to,
the following duties: orient consumers to the medication protocol,
engage in medication observation protocol, monitor medication adherence,
maintain all medication logs. This position will provide oversight of
consumer medication protocol in a structured setting where the consumers
are kept safe and secure in a trauma-free environment; when necessary,
perform CPR. This position may require a flexible schedule including
1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts which may include weekends and holidays. The
agency has the right to change shifts based on the needs of the
organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervise consumers during the shift,
including conducting hourly rounds. Maintain all medication logs to
ensure they are accurate and completed in a timely manner. Provide
training on medication protocols and observation to employees. Monitor
medication refrigerator temperature. Complete medication discontinuation
and destruction protocol. Orient and monitor Consumers to ensure they
are compliant with medication protocol and guidelines. Ability to count,
document and observe consumers taking various prescription drugs.
Collect, prepare, and supervise drug screenings as well as administer
breathalyzer as needed. Observe and identify consumer concerns and
communicate with the clinical team and or prescribers. Ability to climb
three flights of stairs to conduct rounds on an hourly basis and deal
with emergencies. Ability to walk outside to tour the grounds and ensure
the safety of consumers. Ability to respond to emergency situations by
placing calls to Fire, Rescue, Police, and Medical etc. QUALIFICATION
REQUIREMENTS: The Medication Specialist staff must perform each

The qualifications listed below are representative of the
knowledge/skill and/or ability required. High School or General
Education Diploma (GED) preferred. General knowledge of medications.
General knowledge of the homeless and those affected by substance use
disorder. Demonstrated ability to maintain previous employment. Requires
CPR certification every two years. Good working knowledge of computers,
electronic health records and data collection. May require valid
driver\'s license due to business-related travel.
