As a Community Support Group (CSG) Instructor, you’ll empower adults with mental health needs to build skills, strengthen independence, and reach their goals. This role blends teaching, coaching, teamwork, and creativity—making it perfect for someone who is passionate about helping others grow.
What You’ll Do
Group & Individual Support
- Plan, schedule, and lead engaging Community Support Groups focused on life skills such as symptom management, wellness, relationship-building, and vocational readiness.
- Develop group curricula and syllabi aligned with each client’s individualized treatment plan.
- Provide one-on-one psychosocial rehabilitation sessions to help clients master treatment goals.
- Participate as an active member of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Team in developing and adjusting treatment plans.
Client Care & Safety
- Partner with the CSG Supervisor to assess and respond to challenging client behaviors, using appropriate interventions.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive group environment, following all safety, infection control, and bloodborne pathogen protocols.
- Provide occasional transportation for clients to group sessions or community activities.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete accurate, timely service notes that meet agency productivity and Medicaid documentation standards.
- Maintain all records and documentation in accordance with agency, state, and federal regulations.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and follow all agency policies and procedures.
Teamwork & Agency Support
- Collaborate daily with Rehabilitation Supervisors, Program Managers, MHPs, the Agency Nurse, Recovery Support Specialists, and other support staff.
- Help plan, coordinate, and supervise special agency-wide events and outings for clients.
- Uphold consumer rights and adhere to the Mental Health Code, HIPAA, Confidentiality Act, Rule 50, and agency Code of Ethics.
Other duties as assigned, contributing to a positive and client-centered environment.

Qualifications
- Ability to create and maintain a structured, supportive group learning environment.
- Knowledge of behavioral science; strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Solid computer skills and the ability to document services accurately.
- Strong leadership, patience, problem-solving ability, and sound judgment.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license in good standing, liability insurance, and access to a personal vehicle for work.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree OR at least five years of experience in mental health or a related social service field.
- Must complete all required agency training in a timely manner.
- Position meets Medicaid Rule 132 requirements for Mental Health Professional (MHP).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for up to 1 hour during instruction (sitting is typically acceptable during groups).
- Ability to sit for approximately 2 hours for documentation and deskwork.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. from floor to waist; up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead; push/pull up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to type for up to 1 hour and communicate clearly in person and over the phone.
- Occasional operation of agency van or personal vehicle.

Work Conditions
- Moderately noisy environment with direct client contact.
- While providing direct support, staff must remain fully engaged and may not attend to personal business, childcare, errands, or other distractions.
