Job Summary
Direct Care Staff are essential members of the Stepping Stones NW team, responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of youth in our transitional and residential programs. This role provides direct supervision, implements individualized care plans, and supports youth in their daily routines, promoting a safe and nurturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Support individuals in developing life skills and achieving personal goals.
- Monitor and document vital signs as needed, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
- Advocate for resident rights and promote a positive living environment.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses, to provide comprehensive care.
- Engage clients in recreational activities to enhance social interaction and community involvement.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, ensuring all home care standards are followed.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to foster a trusting relationship.
- Provide active supervision and care for youth in accordance with individual case plans.
- Support youth in developing daily living skills, emotional regulation, and positive social interactions.
- Assist with transportation, meal preparation, and participation in community activities.
- Monitor and document youth behaviors, progress, and any incidents in compliance with program policies.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for all residents.
- Collaborate with case managers, supervisors, and other team members to ensure holistic care.
- Respond appropriately to crises and follow all safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Age Requirement:
- At least 21 years of age; OR
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; AND
- One (1) year of documented experience working with children or youth in any of the following settings:
- Licensed daycare or professional nanny
- School or early learning center
- Mental health hospital
- Juvenile rehabilitation, detention center, law enforcement, or corrections
- Child placing agency, residential care program, or as a licensed foster parent
- Conducting supervised visits
- Community service organization directly serving children or families
- OR substitute two (2) years of social services education for one year of experience
Alternative Pathway:
- Less than one year of full-time experience with vulnerable populations; OR
- Currently enrolled in college/university courses related to social services or youth care
- Must work during awake hours with experienced staff until six (6) months of direct care experience is gained
- Between 18–21 years of age if:
- Licensed health professional (WA DOH)
- Associate’s degree or higher
- Enrolled in a college/university internship or practicum
- Must work alongside a staff member aged 21 with six (6) months documented experience.
Preferred Skills
Trauma-informed care knowledge.
Ability to manage challenging behaviors calmly and effectively.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Familiarity with child welfare and behavioral health systems.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
