For more than 40 years, Stepping Stone has been a safe haven and a voice for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in LaPorte County. Through emergency shelter, transitional housing, and wraparound advocacy, we walk alongside survivors as they move from crisis to stability.
The Residential Assistant is a vital part of this mission. As the steady presence in our shelter and housing programs, Residential Assistants ensure safety, provide support, and keep daily operations running smoothly. This is more than a job — it’s a movement.
What You’ll Do:
- Greet and support residents with compassion, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and connect survivors with needed resources.
- Monitor the safety and security of the shelter through walkthroughs and documentation.
- Provide support in healing through active listening, empathetic response, creative problem solving, and crisis management.
- Assist with facility operations, including room turnovers, cleaning tasks, and upkeep.
- Answer crisis and business phone lines, offering support and accurate referrals.
- Uphold house guidelines and respond calmly to conflict or crisis situations.

- Skilled in communication, active listening, and de-escalation.
- Flexible and willing to work various shifts (evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays).
- Ready to be part of a team that empowers survivors and strengthens community safety.
Schedule: Full-time or Part-time (shift work, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays), hiring for our 4pm-12am and 12am-8am shifts!
