Requirements
As a Field Service Technician, you'll be the trusted expert our customers rely on to keep their equipment operating safely and efficiently.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment in the field and at SEI facilities.
- Perform advanced diagnostics on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrain components, and electronic controls.
- Complete preventative maintenance inspections and warranty repairs.
- Test equipment after repairs to ensure peak performance and customer satisfaction.
- Respond to emergency service calls to minimize customer downtime.
- Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and technical bulletins.
- Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Operate and maintain a company service truck, tools, and parts inventory.
- Accurately complete work orders, service reports, inspection forms, and warranty documentation.
- Communicate repair recommendations and equipment status professionally with customers.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
What We're Looking For:
- Minimum 5 years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment, paving equipment, road maintenance equipment, or other diesel-powered machinery.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must provide and maintain a personal set of professional mechanic's hand tools required to perform the essential functions of the position. Specialty tools, diagnostic equipment, and company-specific tooling are provided by Stephenson Equipment.
- Technical degree or certification in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, or a related field.
- Experience servicing construction, paving, or road maintenance equipment.
- CDL (preferred but not required).
Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrain components.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
- Experience using OEM diagnostic software and electronic testing equipment.
- Ability to read hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls.
- Professional attitude with a commitment to quality and safety.
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift up to 75 pounds frequently.
- Stand, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
- Work around noise, vibration, fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and industrial environments.
- Work overtime and occasional weekends as customer needs require.
