Position Summary
Stephens County Schools is seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Literacy Coaches to support elementary literacy instruction. The Literacy Coaches will work directly with teachers and students to improve reading outcomes through evidence-based practices aligned to the science of reading.
These positions are designed to build teacher capacity, strengthen classroom instruction, and increase student achievement in literacy. The Literacy Coaches will serve as a non-evaluative instructional leader who provides job-embedded professional learning, models effective teaching strategies, and uses data to drive instructional decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid certification by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful K-3 classroom teaching or literacy intervention experience
- Knowledge of the ‘Science of Reading’, literacy instruction, dyslexia interventions, and data analysis
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct literacy instruction to students
- Coach teachers through modeling, co-teaching, and feedback cycles
- Analyze student data to inform instruction
- Support implementation of High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) ‘Science of Reading’ curriculum
- Collaborate with school leadership
Time Expectations
- At least 70% of the day spent in classrooms supporting teachers and students
Role Limitations
- Not an evaluator or administrator
- Not a substitute teacher or coordinator
