What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Collaborative Pianist position at Stephen F. Austin State University?
This is a full-time temporary professional position responsible for providing musical accompaniment for rehearsals, performances, and special events in the School of Music. Collaborates regularly with students and faculty. Reports to Director of Accompanying.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in collaborative piano, piano performance, or a related field is required. Doctorate in collaborative piano or piano performance is preferred.
Three years of related experience is required. Experience accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, and choir is required. Experience obtained during undergraduate and graduate studies may be considered.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serves as collaborative pianist for degree recitals and upper-level juries.
- Serves as collaborative pianist for vocal seminars.
- Serves as collaborative pianist for studio classes and studio recitals.
- Serves as collaborative pianist in large ensemble settings.
- Serves as collaborative pianist for School of Music-sponsored competitions and vocal auditions.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- May substitute for other collaborative pianists when needed.
- May serve as collaborative pianist for other performances.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
- Technical and musical mastery of the keyboard.
- Strong sight-reading skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse body of musicians.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software and an understanding of the internet.
- Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
