Tour Planner

Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours
Metairie, LA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/11/2026 CLOSED ON 9/2/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tour Planner position at Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours?

Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours, a 45-year-old company whose passion is bringing history to life, welcomes you.

We all work together so that, by 2036, SAHT is telling 3,000 years of humanity's story through 300 tours annually.

We specialize in historian-led, emotionally impactful, immersive, luxurious, and fun historical tours that go where no one else goes — our sweet spot. If you want to belong to a team that does that well every day, this company's a great fit for you.

Our clients are travelers who want more than a bus tour — people who want history brought to life by real historians, in places most tour companies never take you. If you have experience creating that kind of experience — or want that experience — this role will be a great fit.

You will love it here if you:

  • Value and protect the reputation of the company
  • Really care — you go above and beyond
  • Have a teamwork mindset; you share, communicate, and stay open to dialogue
  • Grow what matters

You'll love coming to work every day if you get, want, and have the capacity to do:

  • Own a tour from concept through closeout — you're the person in the building who knows the tour better than anyone: the history, the route, the vendors, and what went right or wrong last time it ran
  • Handle tour-specific guest communication, answering calls and emails about your tours promptly and accurately
  • Draft both the internal working itinerary and the polished guest-facing itinerary
  • Prepare the field team — give Historians and Tour Managers a finalized itinerary, run a pre-tour itinerary meeting, and put together a complete Digital Binder
  • Partner across departments, working closely with Sales and Marketing, Accounting, and vendors throughout the life of the tour

You'll have success here if you value clear processes and feel qualified to do the following things:

  • Run each assigned tour through every stage of the planning timeline, from securing the backbone of the tour 12 months out through closing the loop after it returns
  • Study the itinerary, destinations, and history behind each tour well enough to make confident decisions and answer detailed guest questions
  • Serve as the quality control checkpoint — nothing goes out to a guest, a Historian, or a Tour Manager without your review

We train our team to help them succeed, and everyone on our team helps with our success. In this role, you'll be accountable to hit the following numbers each week:

  • NPS score
  • Overall tour score
  • Complaints
  • Expense Tracking

If you want to come to work, learn, and hit those numbers, you'll be recognized and rewarded.

Our company runs on EOS purely. That means as a member of this team, you will have a leader who:

  • Gives clear directions
  • Makes sure you have the necessary tools
  • Acts with the greater good in mind
  • Delegates appropriately
  • Takes time to truly understand your role and how you can help the company
  • Makes their expectations clear
  • Communicates well
  • Has effective meetings
  • Meets one-on-one with you quarterly or more, if needed
  • Rewards and recognizes your performance

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • Previous experience in the travel industry
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Project management experience

How to Apply:

Please submit a cover letter and resume. Do not mail materials or bring them to the office — applications submitted that way will not be seen by the hiring team.
