Crisis Support Services (CSS) – Counselor
Full-Time | Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM (with on-call rotation)
Crisis Support Services (CSS) is committed to supporting individuals in crisis through prevention, intervention, and long-term stabilization. We provide 24/7 behavioral support, training, and emergency response to help people in critical situations achieve safety and stability.
Our mission is to de-escalate crises, prevent unnecessary hospitalization or police involvement, and connect individuals with the right resources for long-term success. CSS collaborates with Regional Centers, families, and providers to build pathways toward sustainable stability and brighter futures.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Counselor to join our Crisis Prevention Team. This is a full-time role where you will work directly with individuals with developmental disabilities, families, and professional providers. The primary goal of this role is to provide crisis prevention and interventions services and compassionate support using evidence-based practices.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis prevention and intervention services in the community
- Assess situations and determine appropriate interventions, including police or hospitalization when necessary
- Support individuals and families through transitions and stabilization planning
- Use non-aversive, non-confrontational de-escalation techniques
- Collaborate with regional centers and community partners to connect individuals with resources
- Prioritize crises based on severity and available resources
- Document and report interventions in a timely and accurate manner
- Participate in a weekly rotation of on-call availability
- Maintain a caseload of a minimum of 20 clients
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field (preferred)
- 1–2 years’ experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health needs (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to pass a background check
- Driving Requirements: must have reliable transportation. Mileage reimbursement is provided
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt quickly to changing situations
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Platform
Preferred Skills
- Verbal and/or written fluency in Spanish highly preferred; fluency in other language(s) may be preferred based on assigned region(s) and caseload
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) experience
