Stephanie Gottlieb Fine Jewelry is hiring a Director of Finance & Operations to support our regional growth. This role drives data-driven decision-making and financial planning, managing all aspects of Financial Planning & Analysis and Accounting including, but not limited to forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, variance analysis, AR/AP, and cash flow, ensuring financial integrity across the business. The position requires a mix of strategic insight and hands-on execution, with a strong sense of cross-functional collaboration. This role reports into the President and Chief Commercial Officer.
Base Salary Range: $155,000-$180,000
This role is required in-office four days per week (Monday-Thursday, Fridays optional)
Core Responsibilities
Accounting
- Monitor and manage daily cash flow, including transfers, funding needs, and working capital management.
- Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
- Manage day-to-day accounting processes, including AP/AR, invoice processing, and payroll follow-up.
- Ensure proper invoicing and vendor payments.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
- Manage relationship with external agency to manage corporate tax filings, compliance, and reporting and ensure accurate preparation of applicable federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Assist with outside accounting firm’s year end inquiries surrounding income tax returns.
- Assure that revenues are properly and correctly deposited and supervise the drawing of all checks.
- Perform and oversee bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Handle expenses, reconciliation, and travel bookings for senior executive management.
- Manage onboarding and payroll/benefits set-up for new employees.
- Administer payroll processing, retirement plans, profit-sharing contributions, and employee benefits including health and life insurance.
- Negotiate employee benefits including health and life insurance.
- Ensure the company’s practices adhere to all policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations.
- Supervise company insurance programs, health benefits, 401k, and retirement accounts.
FP&A
• Produce timely, accurate financial reports, cash flow statements, dashboards, and KPIs to support the President and Chief Commercial Officer.
• Maintain forecasting/budgeting P&Ls and develop ad hoc financial models to address business needs.
• Build financial models, forecasts, and cash flow projections to inform executive decisions.
• Prepare budgets vs. actuals, including variance analysis and reporting to management.
• Provide strategic financial insights to drive growth, profitability, and sustainability.
• Compile data for monthly financial reviews.
• Create and manage top-down and bottom-up plans by product category and business area.
• Analyze sales and profitability by product category and classifications to support strategic decisions.
Operations
• Oversee inventory valuation and ensure alignment between financial and operational data. • Drive improvements in finance operations, including ERP use and process automation. • Support customer service and sales on account-related financial or shipping issues. • Support vendor negotiations (freight, insurance, benefits providers) with a focus on financial impact.
• Oversee Operations & Logistics team’s processes and performance, to identify optimization levers.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA or MBA preferred).
• 8 years of experience in accounting, controllership, or finance.
• 2-3 years managing people.
• Strong technical accounting skills with experience in month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience with AP/AR, journal entries, and cash flow management. • Experience in NetSuite, Shopify, and Bill.com preferred.
• Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Experience with payroll processing.
• High proficiency in Excel; ability to create and maintain financial models and reporting tools.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
• Self-motivated leadership ability with a hands-on, collaborative approach. • Retail, jewelry and/or consumer product experience is a bonus but not a requirement.
