Regulatory Scientist

Job Description
Stepan is seeking a Regulatory Scientist to join our Global Regulatory team in Northbrook, IL. In this role, you will report to the Hazard Communication Regulatory Specialist, Team Leader. You will join a dynamic regulatory team responsible for managing regulatory and product safety matters related to Stepan’s portfolio of surfactants, polymers, and other specialty ingredients. The Regulatory Scientist will be responsible for supporting the business by creating and maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labels, and dangerous goods classifications. The position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of professionalism.

The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.

Regulatory Scientist

Job Description
Stepan is seeking a Regulatory Scientist to join our Global Regulatory team in Northbrook, IL. In this role, you will report to the Hazard Communication Regulatory Specialist, Team Leader. You will join a dynamic regulatory team responsible for managing regulatory and product safety matters related to Stepan’s portfolio of surfactants, polymers, and other specialty ingredients. The Regulatory Scientist will be responsible for supporting the business by creating and maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labels, and dangerous goods classifications. The position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the company’s new product development and product change processes by developing and revising global SDS and product labels compliant in the country of manufacture and sale.
- Work in conjunction with the Corporate Toxicologist to complete GHS classifications for products.
- Track global hazard communication regulations, assess impact of changes, and communicate internally to impacted stakeholders.
- Maintain DOT, IATA, IMDG and other dangerous goods certifications.
- Support dangerous goods classification process for commercial and experimental products.
- Must have 2 years of experience in hazard communication regulations and standards.
- Experience utilizing SAP EHS for the generation of safety data sheets and labels beneficial but not required.
- Dangerous Goods Certifications beneficial but not required (DOT, IATA, IMDG).
- Awareness of toxicological endpoints and the application of those endpoints for product safety classifications.
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor Required - Science in Chemistry, Toxicology, Biology or other related science preferred
- Masters Preferred
