What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support and Engagement Specialist position at Step Up Suncoast, Inc?
Healthy Families is a home visiting program for expectant parents and parents of newborns experiencing stressful life situations.
The HF program improves childhood outcomes and increases family self-sufficiency by empowering parents through education and community support.
As a Family Support and Engagement specialist you will visit parents in their homes and:
- Assist in identifying their strengths and needs, and in improving in their skills to optimize a stable home environment
- Identify and refer the family for contact or appointments at other supportive agencies,
- Track immunizations.
- Conduct/monitor developmental screenings.
- Conduct/monitor other assessments as required by the program model.
- Assist family in strengthening the parent-child relationship by incorporating a strength-based model as a guide for services. Suggest parent-child interactions accordingly.
- Monitor the well-being of children in the home and report any concerns to the supervisor.
You will be expected to:
- Document accurately and in a timely manner in participant files all contacts with or on behalf of participant families.
- Complete forms and paperwork in a timely and comprehensive manner as required.
- Be prepared for supervision and participate in a punctual, professional, and contributory manner.
- Adhere to all agency policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all Healthy Families Florida/Healthy Families Manatee policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School (H.S.) Diploma or General Education Development (GED) and a minimum of two years of experience working with children age 0-5 in a professional role
Other requirements:
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Must have reliable transportation for work-related travel, including nights and out of town.
- Must be insurable under Step Up Suncoast’s organizational policies.
- Must provide a copy of vehicle insurance
- Pre-employment drug screening required.
- Must pass a Level II criminal background check.
Expected hours of work:
- Hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm., however, you may be called upon outside these hours to complete home visits or attend other functions of the position or agency as needed.

- Vacation - begins to accrue immediately upon hire at approximately 8 hours per month. Follows a graduated scale with years of service.
- Sick - begins to accrue immediately upon hire at approximately 8 hours per month.
- Holidays – We get 19 paid holidays per year – New Year’s Day, MLK, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous People Day, Veterans Day, 3 days at Thanksgiving, 6 days at Christmas.
- Personal/Mental Health days - 2 paid personal days per year.
