What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Services Network Engineer position at STEP CG?
As a Professional Services Network Engineer at STEP, you’ll deliver advanced networking solutions across multi-vendor environments. You will plan, implement, and support projects involving routing, switching, wireless, and security technologies from leading manufacturers such as Extreme Networks, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cradlepoint and others. You’ll take ownership of smaller, standalone implementations and contribute to larger, complex engagements under the guidance of senior engineers and architects.
Typical activities include network design assistance, device configuration and staging, software upgrades, on-site installation, system validation, troubleshooting and detailed documentation following STEP’s established standards. You’ll work directly with customers, project managers, and peers to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, securely, and to specification, representing STEP’s commitment to technical excellence and exceptional service.

- Deploy and configure enterprise network solutions (switching, routing, wireless, and security) across multi-vendor environments.
- Lead smaller projects and contribute to complex implementations under senior engineering guidance.
- Perform installation, configuration, validation, and documentation following STEP’s established delivery standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with a root-cause mindset, ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Communicate effectively with customers, project managers, and peers to ensure technical clarity and project alignment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement through documentation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration with your team.
- Travel as needed per project requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required
- Strong foundational understanding of networking concepts and protocols (Layers 1–3, VLANs, VRFs, dynamic routing, IP addressing, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with enterprise switching, routing, wireless, or firewall technologies.
- Proven ability to deploy and troubleshoot multi-vendor network environments.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts to both engineers and business users.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver against project timelines.
- Experience in Professional Services delivery or customer-facing project work.
- Familiarity with solutions from Extreme Networks, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or Cradlepoint.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network , CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent vendor certifications.
- Exposure to network design principles, automation tools, or monitoring/reporting platforms.
- Desire to grow into Senior Engineer or Systems Architect roles through mentorship and hands-on experience.
