As a Stemilt Sales Representative you are charged with facilitating sale of fruit to retail food stores, wholesale grocers, restaurants, hotels, and more. This position supports four thousand Stemilters and it’s required to deliver extraordinary customer service at all levels, in addition to the primary duties of:

  • Develop fruit marketing strategies or supply plans for or with specific Stemilt customers to maximize the profitable placement of Stemilt fruit, considering anticipated or actual supplies and other market conditions.
  • Negotiate fruit transactions with customers on Stemilt's behalf, including pricing decisions, fruit inventory, quality and quantity, as well as transportation arrangements and costs; delivery options, packaging options and incentives as part of the transaction.
  • Identify outside source and negotiate terms of purchase to buy fruit on behalf of Stemilt, when the company's supply is insufficient to meet customer needs.
  • Represent Stemilt in addressing and adjusting customer complaints or claims, including negotiation on Stemilt's behalf for the transportation and resale of rejected or delayed fruit. This may include developing an action plan ensuring a timely supply to the customer with alternative fruit; and determining what disposition to make of the rejected fruit.
  • Identify and strategically pursue business opportunities by compiling lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet Web sites, and other sources.
  • Travel through assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders and talk with customers by phone.
  • Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Estimate date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of production and delivery schedules.
  • Enter new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
  • Develop and maintains relationship with purchasing contacts.
  • Visit customers at their facilities, or host customers for visits to Stemilt facilities, as well as attend trade shows.
  • Stay abreast of current market conditions including fruit prices, supply levels and consumer trends and preferences.
  • Invoice to customers, and promoting timely customer payments
  • Deep involvement in planning and packing at least 1 specific variety for the season on apples and pears for the whole organization.
  • Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the manager

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.


Work Environment

  • Regularly of work is performed in an indoor office environment
  • Rooms are well ventilated with low to moderate noise, well-lit with low or no dust, and low to moderate odors.

Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years’ related experience and/or training
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suit (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Power BI not required but a plus!

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, equivalent education and related experience. Qualified individuals must be flexible with the working schedule.

  • Knowledge of fruit grades, varieties, packs, sizes, customer packages, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to be productive and can identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Business Acumen - Understands business implications of decisions; Displays orientation to profitability; Demonstrates knowledge of market and competition; Aligns work with strategic goals.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
