STEM Space is a Maryland nonprofit focused on hands-on STEM and technology education through robotics, engineering, maker activities, coding, design, and project-based learning. We provide camps, clubs, classes, competitions, and community programs that help students develop creativity, confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Position Overview:
STEM Space is seeking a Programs & Operations Coordinator to support the planning, organization, and delivery of our educational programs and community initiatives.
This volunteer leadership position is ideal for college students, recent graduates, early-career professionals, retirees, and community members interested in gaining experience in nonprofit leadership, program administration, community engagement, event coordination, and organizational operations.
Most responsibilities may be completed remotely, though some attendance at programs, meetings, community events, and partner locations may be requested.
Responsibilities:
• Support the planning and coordination of STEM Space programs and events
• Assist with volunteer recruitment, communication, and coordination
• Help maintain schedules, procedures, and organizational documentation
• Serve as a representative of STEM Space with community partners and stakeholders
• Support instructors, coaches, and volunteers as needed
• Assist with program logistics and operational needs
• Help coordinate event planning and community outreach efforts
• Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of robotics competitions, STEM showcases, workshops, camps, and community events
• Support volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and logistics for educational programs and special events
• Help coordinate STEM Space's involvement in FIRST and other STEM-related initiatives
• Communicate regularly with organizational leadership regarding projects and priorities
• Provide occasional support for program delivery and event operations when needed
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and professionally
• Interest in education, nonprofit work, youth development, or community engagement
• Experience working with youth, volunteers, camps, clubs, or educational programs is preferred
• Experience with event planning, leadership, administration, public relations, or nonprofit operations is a plus
• Knowledge of the FIRST Robotics ecosystem or other STEM programs is a major plus

Requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be reliable, organized, and professional
• Must be able to communicate effectively with volunteers, partners, and leadership
• Ability to attend occasional in-person programs, meetings, and events within Central Maryland
Compensation:
This is an unpaid, volunteer leadership position.
The Programs & Operations Coordinator may be eligible for a modest annual stipend based on organizational needs, available funding, responsibilities, performance, and leadership approval. Any stipend is discretionary, not guaranteed, and may vary from year to year.
