What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Program Coordinator position at STEM Like a Girl?
STEM Like a Girl is seeking a part-time program coordinator (5-10 hours/week on average) to manage and oversee the implementation of our STEM workshops. The successful candidate will work closely with the STEM Like a Girl leadership team to ensure that the program is delivered effectively and efficiently, while aligning with our organization’s mission.
About STEM Like a Girl:
The mission of STEM Like a Girl is to excite and empower girls with knowledge and confidence in STEM to become future problems solvers and leaders. Founded in 2018, STEM Like a Girl is an Oregon-based nonprofit organization that hosts half-day STEM workshops for girls and female identifying youth in 3rd-5th grade and an adult. Our workshops encourage family learning while working through fun, hands-on science and engineering challenges that will excite and expose girls to the various fields of STEM. At the core of every STEM Like a Girl workshop is our foundational belief in the power of girls, supportive adults, and mentors to encourage girls to develop their own STEM identity.
Since 2018, STEM Like a Girl has:
- Hosted over 50 workshops across Oregon, Washington, and New Jersey
- Inspired over 1500 girls and their adult through STEM Like a Girl workshops
- Partnered with over 250 volunteers to bring STEM Like a Girl workshops to life
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as point person for STEM Like a Girl workshops across Portland-Metro locations at a frequency of 2-4 workshops per season (Fall and Spring). Coordinate logistics and oversee all aspects of planning and executing each weekend workshop including, but not limited to: Venue and date selections, Curriculum selection, Managing participant recruitment and communications, Managing volunteer recruitment and communications, Procuring and preparing supplies for activities, registration, and snacks, Overseeing all day-of workshop logistics (set up, volunteer coordination, leading the workshop, and clean up)
- Remotely support STEM Like a Girl workshops across other locations including: Managing participant recruitment and communications, Managing volunteer recruitment and communications, Procuring supplies for activities, registration, and snacks to be sent to on-location workshop coordinators
- Document lessons learned and keep documentation on workshop execution up to date
- Work closely with local community partners to recruit participants, volunteers, and donations
- Assist in workshop marketing efforts (social media, print, etc)
- Manage and update contacts and participant data using Excel and Monday CRM
- Provide weekly status updates to the STEM Like a Girl director
- Assist with other organizational tasks as time permits during off-seasons of workshop planning
- Serve as a representative of the STEM Like a Girl organization in the community
- Know and effectively articulate the mission, purpose, goals, policies, and programs of STEM Like a Girl
- Attend monthly board meetings on Tuesday evenings
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience working in program management or event planning
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable public speaking
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to oversee large groups of people ranging in age from kids to adults
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of STEM Like a Girl
- Passion for empowering young girls and their families in STEM
- Must reside in the Portland Metro area
- Availability for weekend work 6-8 weekends each year
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field, education, or other related field
- Experience working with elementary school age kids in a group setting
- Experience with Microsoft Office, WordPress, and Monday CRM a plus
Hours and Compensation:
This is a part-time position, with approximately 5-10 hours per week. Hours are flexible and may vary from week to week. This position will require approximately six to eight weekend commitments per year on workshop days. This position is expected to work remotely but must live in the Portland-metro area and attend Portland-metro workshops in person. Compensation will be $27-$29/hour and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
