What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer position at Stem IT?
Hypergrowth Sensor Data AI company in Arlington, Virginia (hybrid) is looking to bring on a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer after a recent round of funding. The ideal engineer will have built AWS/Azure environments from scratch, and partner with engineering and security to improve gitOps delivery, IaC, K8 operations, observability, as well as edge compute systems. This is an excellent opportunity to join some of the top engineers working on edge compute and IoT endeavors.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain GitOps-driven delivery pipelines and reusable OpenTofu / Terraform modules with strong CI validation
- Architect and secure multi-cloud infrastructure across Azure, Azure Government, and AWS
- Operate and scale Kubernetes/Helm platforms, improving reliability, automation, and developer velocity
- Build modern observability across metrics, logs, traces, and alerting using Grafana and related tooling
- Support edge networking, IoT, and streaming data pipelines, including AWS IoT and Kinesis, for remote sensor systems
Preferred Experience:
- 7 years in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering
- Deep experience operating production infrastructure in Azure (Azure Government strongly preferred)
- Practical AWS experience, particularly around IoT services, Kinesis, and event-driven systems
- Expert-level Kubernetes operations experience, including Helm
- Strong GitOps background and track record improving delivery safety and speed
- Deep infrastructure-as-code expertise with OpenTofu / Terraform
- Strong observability experience with Grafana, telemetry, and modern monitoring practices
Great to have:
- Experience in regulated or high-security environments
- FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, IL4 / IL5 ore related compliance frameworks
- Multi-cluster, Bare-metal or hybrid cloud-edge Kubernetes topologies background
