Position Summary:The Math Curriculum Specialist is both a program coordinator and the lead mathematics educator across all STEM Greenhouse programs. This role shapes how students engage with and succeed in math across every stage of our pipeline, from early exposure and middle school readiness to advanced coursework and career-connected learning. This role ensures students engage with rigorous, relevant math content while also experiencing meaningful, well-coordinated programming, from weekly instruction to academic events, field trips, and enrichment.
This position combines direct instructional support, curriculum development, teacher coaching, data-informed planning, and cross-program collaboration. The Math Curriculum Specialist works closely with the Program Director, site-based leads, and curriculum specialists across disciplines. Their closest instructional partner is the Science Curriculum Specialist at various grade levels. Together, they lead efforts to ensure strong instructional alignment, academic rigor, and meaningful, culturally responsive STEM learning for every student.
This role balances planning and delivery. Whether modeling a lesson, leading a PLC, analyzing student data, or coordinating a multi-site math competition or HBCU tour, the Math Curriculum Specialist holds both the vision and the logistics. It’s a position for someone who leads with clarity, builds with care, and believes that math should both challenge and affirm the students we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Math Instructional Leadership and Curriculum Design – 40%
- Lead development and alignment of math curriculum across all programs, from early elementary through high school-level instruction.
- Design and share lesson materials, pacing guides, and enrichment content that reflect rigorous, real-world math applications.
- Collaborate closely with the Science Curriculum Specialist and other instructional leaders to support interdisciplinary and culturally responsive learning.
- Program Coordination and Student Learning – 30%
- Co-lead or lead the planning and execution of significant program experiences, including field trips, tutoring systems, academic enrichment, and field-based learning.
- Teach or tutor at various levels across programs.
- Support consistent, high-quality instruction through tutor supervision, instructional modeling, and occasional direct teaching or mentoring.
- Work with site-based teams to ensure strong classroom culture, effective learning environments, and student engagement.
- Cross-Program Support and Collaboration – 20%
- Act as a math resource across STEM Greenhouse’s full program pipeline
- Participate in internal SGH team planning meetings, lead school PLCs, and cross-team initiatives to ensure instructional consistency and high-impact math integration.
- Maintain strong relationships with school partners, including math teachers and administrators.
- Data, Communication, and External Engagement – 10%
- Track student progress and instructional effectiveness through assessments and internal tools.
- Share math-related insights, student stories, and program data for grant reporting and communications.
- Represent STEM Greenhouse at select events and partner engagements to support visibility and collaboration.
Preferred Candidate Competencies and Attributes:
- Strong background in mathematics instruction, curriculum design, and content standards (e.g., CCSS)
- Demonstrated experience in culturally responsive pedagogy and working with urban youth, children of color, and students from underresourced communities
- Skilled in balancing strategic planning with hands-on instructional support and classroom presence
- Effective verbal and written communicator, with the ability to collaborate across staff, schools, and external partners
- Organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple timelines, tasks, and priorities with attention to detail
- Confident in leading professional learning communities (PLCs), supervising tutors, and supporting instructional teams
- Strong project management and coordination skills, including scheduling, logistics, and stakeholder engagement
- Analytical thinker with the ability to use student data and program insights to drive decision-making

- Proactive and self-directed, with a solutions-oriented mindset and collaborative leadership style
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, or a related field
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience teaching math or leading curriculum in an urban school or nonprofit setting
- Demonstrated ability to supervise tutors, lead academic events, and coordinate cross-program initiatives
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse stakeholders
- Availability for some evenings and weekends for events or field trips
- Reliable transportation for travel between school sites and event locations
Compensation: Salary Range - $50,000 - 65,000 annually, based on experience.
