What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2-5 Stem Lab Teacher (Royal Stem Academy) position at STEM Academy?
Primary Purpose:
Provide students in grades 2-5 with engaging, hands-on STEM learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, creativity, and innovation. The STEM Lab Teacher will focus on project-based learning, Project Lead the Way, and robotics to support the development of students’ science, technology, engineering, and mathematics skills through lab-based instruction aligned with district curriculum and state standards.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for
certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
GT certification required or willingness to obtain
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of elementary STEM curriculum, instructional strategies, and lab-based learning experiences
Knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts appropriate for grades 2-5
Knowledge of project-based learning, Project Lead the Way, and robotics instruction
Ability to develop and implement hands-on, inquiry-based lessons
Ability to integrate math and science instruction into STEM experiences
Ability to manage student behavior in a lab setting
Knowledge of safety procedures for classroom and lab environments
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to integrate technology into instruction
Experience:
Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
Math/science instruction preferred
Upper elementary and lower elementary experience preferred
3 years classroom teaching experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement STEM lab lessons that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the needs of students assigned and support active, hands-on learning.
- Design lessons and lab experiences that promote inquiry, collaboration, problem solving, and real-world application of STEM concepts.
- Implement instruction with a focus on project-based learning, Project Lead the Way, and robotics.
- Incorporate math and science skills into STEM learning experiences to strengthen student understanding and application of core concepts.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support student engagement and achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other support personnel to ensure student needs are met and instruction is appropriately modified according to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, or other student supports.
- Coordinate with other staff members to align STEM instruction with grade-level goals, objectives, and district initiatives.
- Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s), if applicable, and oversee completion.
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal measures.
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Encourage student curiosity, perseverance, teamwork, and innovation through meaningful STEM experiences.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a STEM lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Establish and enforce lab procedures and safety expectations for student use of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting and maintaining STEM lab materials, supplies, equipment, and instructional resources.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, inventories, and other documents required.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members regarding student progress and STEM learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and campus staff to support cross-curricular connections and campus instructional goals.
- Communicate effectively with administrators regarding program needs, student progress, and lab operations.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Stay current in STEM education practices, instructional technology, and innovative teaching strategies.
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
- Assist with planning and supporting campus STEM events, showcases, family engagement opportunities, and related activities as assigned.
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety of the STEM lab and storage areas.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s), if applicable.
