Stelo System Administrator/Support Engineer

We are looking for a hands-on Senior SysAdmin / Support Engineer to own the day-to-day maintenance of our internal systems and provide technical support to our Stelo Data Replicator customers. This hybrid role is both internal-facing (infrastructure, users, environments) and external-facing (customer support), ideal for someone comfortable working across a broad but manageable scope in a small company.

Key Responsibilities - System Administrator (Internal)

  • Own the day-to-day maintenance and reliability of our internal infrastructure, handling routine systems, network, and database upkeep across our small but diverse environment.
  • Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot virtualized infrastructure platforms (e.g., VxRail/VMware) running Windows Server and Linux, focusing on routine maintenance, patching, and performance monitoring.
  • Manage user accounts, groups, and permissions across AD/Azure AD and internal systems, enforcing least-privilege access and MFA.
  • Support and maintain cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) for virtual machines, networking, storage, and secure remote access.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Fortinet-based VPN solutions to ensure secure and reliable connectivity for remote users.
  • Implement and maintain backup and recovery processes for servers, applications, and databases, including periodic restore testing.
  • Monitor the health and capacity of systems, networks, VPN, and services, and handle incident response and basic performance troubleshooting.
  • Perform routine operational tasks: OS and application updates, certificate renewals, log reviews, and security patching.
  • Administer and support databases, especially IBM DB2 LUW and IBM i (AS/400), including basic administration, backup/restore, and performance troubleshooting in cooperation with the product team.

Key Responsibilities - Support Engineer (External)

  • Provide technical support for SQDR customers via remote sessions, email, and ticketing systems. Support includes troubleshooting complex environments and product issues while guiding customers through installation, configuration, and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot SQDR deployment issues, including connectivity, configuration, database integration (DB2, IBM i, other RDBMS), and OS/environment problems.
  • Analyze logs and diagnostic information to identify root causes and recommend workarounds or long-term solutions.
  • Assist customers with installing, upgrading, and configuring SQDR in their environments (Windows/Linux, on-premises and cloud).
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams to escalate product defects, reproduce issues, and validate fixes and patches.
  • Contribute to knowledge base articles, how‑to guides, and FAQs.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in systems administration / infrastructure roles, with responsibility for production environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and Linux (e.g., Ubuntu, RHEL, Rocky/CentOS) in virtualized environments.
  • Experience with virtual infrastructure platforms such as VxRail, VMware, Hyper‑V, or similar.
  • Working experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including basic compute, storage, and networking.
  • Experience supporting relational databases, preferably DB2 LUW and/or IBM i (AS/400), including backup/restore and basic performance troubleshooting.
  • Solid understanding of network fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, routing, and firewalls.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and supporting Fortinet VPN solutions in a production environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, network, database, and application layers.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication skills and prior experience supporting external technical users or customers.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment, managing priorities, and documenting work clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with ODBC/JDBC drivers, including connection lifecycle management, statement execution, parameter and result-set handling, diagnostics (SQLSTATE, error codes), and performance tuning across multiple relational databases.
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD practices.
