Senior Controls Engineer

Stellar Industrial Controls is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to design, program, commission, and support industrial automation systems for manufacturing clients across the United States. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can work independently, lead technical execution, and deliver reliable control solutions in live production environments.
Responsibilities
- Design and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial machinery and production lines
- Lead system architecture, I/O design, network layout, and control narratives
- Commission equipment on-site and support start-up, FAT, and SAT activities
- Integrate motion and servo systems, VFDs, safety devices, and industrial networks
- Troubleshoot complex control and electrical issues in active production environments
- Develop clean, maintainable code and thorough documentation
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and operations teams
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians as needed
Required Qualifications
- 7 years of industrial controls or automation experience
- Strong PLC programming experience (Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, or equivalent)
- Experience with HMI/SCADA development
- Solid understanding of industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, Modbus, OPC UA)
- Experience commissioning systems in manufacturing environments
- Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Motion and servo system experience
- Functional safety experience (SIL/PL concepts)
- Electrical design and schematics experience
- Automotive or high-volume manufacturing background
