Responsibilities
- Perform in‑process and final inspection of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical assemblies in accordance with IPC J‑STD‑001, IPC‑A‑610, customer specifications, and internal procedures.
- Conduct detailed visual inspection, solder joint evaluation, and mechanical feature verification using microscopes, borescopes, and hand inspection tools.
- Verify compliance of SMT components, through‑hole components, and mechanical hardware on subassemblies, assemblies, and finished products.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, torque tools) to validate dimensional and mechanical requirements.
- Confirm all work is performed per drawings, routings, and manufacturing instructions.
- Review and validate documentation packages including travelers, routers, work instructions, BOMs, and inspection checklists for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure traceability of materials, components, and processes is maintained throughout the build cycle.
- Record inspection results accurately and maintain inspection data in accordance with QMS retention requirements.
- Identify, document, and classify nonconformances in accordance with internal NCR/CAR processes.
- Generate nonconformance reports (NCRs) in the ERP/QC system, including defect description, location, and objective evidence.
- Segregate and tag discrepant material to prevent unintended use and support MRB review.
- Communicate defects and trends to Quality Engineering, Production, and Process Engineering to support root‑cause and corrective action activities.
- Verify that special processes (soldering, staking, bonding, torquing, cleaning, etc.) have been performed by qualified personnel and meet specification requirements.
- Ensure inspection points, buy‑offs, and quality hold points are completed in sequence and documented properly.
- Maintain compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements including ESD, FOD, safety, and workmanship standards.
- Use ERP/MES/QC systems to:
- Perform inspection buy offs, log inspection results, create NCRs, verify router steps and sign offs, retrieve drawings, specifications, and revision controlled documents
- Ensure all electronic records are accurate, complete, and audit ready.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD‑free inspection area.
- Minimum of 3 years of prior relevant experience, preferably in quality workmanship inspections of electronic and mechanical assemblies.
- Experience in IPC J-STD-001 & Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) handling controls and performing solder inspection of circuit board assemblies.
- Must have experience in the use of inspection tools (i.e., microscopes, micrometers, calipers, height gage and scales).
- Demonstrated ability to work from blueprints, drawings, engineering documents, and manufacturing instructions.
- Must be able to determine hardware compliance through the use of specifications and instructions.
- Ability to lift packages weighing up to 35 pounds.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have working knowledge of MS Outlook (email), MS Word, MS Excel, and familiarity working with databases.
- Familiar with comparator and CMM a plus.
- Participate in training and meet necessary certifications as required.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
