We are currently seeking a full-time Appraisal Specialist at our Tomahawk office location. This is considered an entry-level position, although previous related professional experience is helpful.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As an Appraisal Specialist, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality appraisal services for projects involving transmission lines, pipelines, public infrastructure, conservation easements, and more. This position resides in our Energy, Infrastructure, and Real Estate Solutions Division responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for assisting appraisers and appraisal staff with real estate market research, comparable and subject property data entry and analysis, property field inspections, and narrative report writing
- Conduct property field inspections, documenting site characteristics and meeting with landowners
- Responsible for report writing, data entry, and preparation of appraisal reports under tight deadlines
- Interacting in person with clients and landowners
- Contribute to overall Appraisal Department expansion by reaching out to potential clients, developing contacts, and ultimately securing appraisal business
- Other duties as assigned

PREFERRED SKILLS
- Desire to develop a career as an appraisal professional in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business.
- Bachelor’s degree in real estate, business, land management, finance, or a related field preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals
- Knowledge of real estate principals, land legal descriptions, appraisal practices, qualitative analysis of land features including topography, soils, land and forest cover, access, utilities, water features, and other vacant and improved property characteristics
- Familiarity with utility appraisals is a plus
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Competent with Microsoft Office software and desktop and online mapping applications
- Ability to navigate and locate specific properties in the field, in both urban and remote settings
- Ability to travel and conduct overnight work away from the Tomahawk office
- Current valid driver’s license with personal vehicle suitable for field work (mileage is reimbursed)
- ATV and snowmobile certifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT
At Steigerwaldt, we offer a Remote-Friendly Hybrid Work Model for our staff. Due to the nature of the team approach to our fieldwork and needed access to equipment and company vehicles, the Appraisal Specialist position is considered a resident or office-based position with remote work possible, upon approval from the supervisor. The position is roughly 40 percent field work and 60 percent office work.
COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with experience.
POSTING DATE
April 28, 2025. Position will be filled within one to three months. Interviews will be scheduled throughout this time period. Expected start is July 1, 2025, dependent upon candidate availability. Please note that this position may be filled sooner, as there is flexibility in the start date.
