What are the responsibilities and job description for the Slitter Set Up Operator - 1st Shift position at STEELSUMMIT HOLDINGS INC?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Setup Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently configuring slitter arbors to achieve precise slit widths that meet customer specifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assemble tooling setups for the slitting line, including spacers, slitter knives, and stripper rings.
- Interpret part numbers (PNs) and work instructions to determine required slit widths for customer orders.
- Utilize setup software and PN data to generate accurate, shimless setups.
- Measure and verify product dimensions using tape measures, calipers, and micrometers, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.
- Perform and document daily calibration checks on measuring instruments.
- Input required widths and parameters into the system to generate setup configurations.
- Determine appropriate tooling clearances using provided clearance charts.
- Load and thread master coils through the slitter head.
- Band finished material as required.
- Maintain 5S standards and overall housekeeping within the work area.
- Begin cross-training toward the Chief Operator role.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers) is preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk on a concrete floor for the duration of the shift.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
