What are the responsibilities and job description for the Freelance Video Producer & Editor position at SteelPoint Capital?
Is This YOU…
- A skilled video producer and editor who thrives in a fast-moving, founder-led environment — you do not need a full production crew or a two-week runway to deliver great content. You move fast, you figure it out, and the output looks and sounds sharp.
- Experienced with podcast production end-to-end — you have filmed, recorded, and edited podcast-style content before. You understand lighting, audio quality, multi-camera setups, and what makes a long-form conversation watchable rather than forgettable.
- A short-form content machine — you watch a 60-minute episode and immediately see the five clips inside it. You know how to cut for hooks, captions, pacing, and the platform-specific formats that actually get watched on YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Comfortable owning a YouTube channel — titles, thumbnails, descriptions, SEO, upload cadence, playlists. You have done this before. You do not need to be managed through it.
- Self-directed and accountable — you can work with a clear brief and a deadline and deliver without hand-holding. You communicate proactively, you flag issues before they become problems, and you hit your turnarounds.
- Excited by the content, not just the craft — SteelPoint is a private investment platform with a founder who has a real story and a real audience. This is not corporate video work. It is the kind of content that builds a personal brand and a platform. You want to be part of building that.
- Film twice-weekly recording sessions — in-person at Boyce Plaza in Upper Saint Clair (Pittsburgh). Multi-camera setup, quality audio, proper lighting. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes.
- Edit each full episode for YouTube — clean cuts, intro/outro, graphics, captions, quality audio mix. Consistent brand look and feel across every episode.
- Create 5 to 8 short-form clips per episode — identify the best moments, cut for hooks and platform pacing, add captions and graphics. Formatted for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and LinkedIn.
- Manage the YouTube channel — upload scheduling, titles, thumbnails, descriptions, tags, chapters, playlists. Own the channel’s consistency and growth cadence.
- Deliver formatted clips for the social media team or post directly — platform-specific cuts for Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. You know the difference between what plays on each.
- Create thumbnails for YouTube — eye-catching, brand-consistent, designed to drive clicks. You can do this yourself or direct a graphic designer if needed.
- Maintain a consistent brand look and feel across all output — the Never Perfect podcast has an identity. Every episode, every clip, every thumbnail should feel like part of the same show.
- Meet established turnaround times — full episodes delivered within 5 business days of filming. Short-form clips delivered within 3 business days. These are the standards. Sometimes, turn around is faster.
- 100 Ads for Meta and Google - experience editing horizontal and vertical video ads in high volume while keeping quality.
- VSLs for landing pages - Occasional VSL updates for landing pages.
- Contract type: Freelance / independent contractor. Not a full-time employee.
- Commitment: Approximately 20 to 30 hours per month based on twice-weekly filming cadence.
- Location: Filming is in-person at Boyce Plaza, Upper Saint Clair, PA (Pittsburgh’s southwest suburb). Editing and post-production can be done remotely.
- Pittsburgh-area preferred: you need to be available for twice-weekly in-person sessions. Local candidates or those willing to commute are strongly preferred.
- Start date: Immediate. We are not waiting on this hire.
- Rate: Competitive, based on experience. Quoted per project or monthly retainer. Please include your rate expectations when you reach out.
- 2 to 5 years of video production and editing experience, with a portfolio that includes podcast-style or long-form interview content and short-form clips derived from that content
- Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent — and fast with it. You are not learning on the job.
- Comfortable with multi-camera setups, podcast-grade audio, and lighting — you know what good sounds like and what good looks like, and you can set it up yourself
- Experience running or managing a YouTube channel — upload optimization, thumbnails, descriptions, and channel growth basics are familiar territory
- Strong eye for short-form storytelling — you cut clips that actually get watched, not just content that is technically formatted for the platform
- Self-directed and deadline-driven — you can manage your own time, hit your turnarounds, and communicate clearly without being chased
- Portfolio required — show us podcast or long-form video work, short-form clips you have cut from long-form content, and YouTube channels you have managed or contributed to
- Immediate, consistent work. This is not a one-off project. It is an ongoing contract with a regular cadence and a real workload.
- Real content with a real audience. Never Perfect is not a corporate newsletter. It is a founder’s personal brand platform with a genuine following and a growing ecosystem behind it.
- Ground floor of something bigger. SteelPoint is actively building a full marketing function and a content strategy under new leadership. The right person can grow from this contract into a larger role.
- Autonomy. You own the production. You are not executing someone else’s vision frame by frame. You bring craft and judgment to every episode.
- Let’s Go! — Action, action, action. Progress over perfection. Focus on priorities.
- Extreme Ownership — Say it, do it. Learn fast, fix faster. Results matter, always.
- We Got Your Back — 1 1 > 2. Serve instead of being served. Thoughtfully challenge.
- Lead with Heart — Respect, care, and compassion. Authentic and genuine. Contagious positivity.
