Garage Door Technician

Steele’s Garage Door Solutions is seeking a dependable, mechanically skilled Commercial / Industrial Overhead Door Service Technician to join our team supporting an ongoing government contract at Fort Hood, Texas.

This is a hands-on field position servicing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting commercial and industrial overhead door systems throughout the military installation.

We are looking for someone who can work safely, follow procedures, diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, and take pride in completing repairs correctly the first time.

Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive maintenance on commercial and industrial overhead doors.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical door-system problems.
• Repair and replace operators, motors, gearboxes, controls, limit assemblies, safety devices, cables, rollers, bearings, hinges, tracks, springs, and related components.
• Troubleshoot commercial door operators and control circuits.
• Perform adjustments, lubrication, testing, and operational inspections.
• Assist with sectional-door, rolling-steel-door, and industrial-door repairs and replacements.
• Identify unsafe conditions and previously performed improper repairs.
• Verify proper operation of safety devices and door systems after repairs.
• Accurately document work performed, materials used, deficiencies found, and recommended repairs.
• Maintain company tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
• Follow OSHA requirements, site-specific safety procedures, and military-installation requirements.
• Work with another technician when required for larger or higher-risk door systems.
• Maintain professional conduct while working around military personnel, government employees, and other contractors.

Qualifications

Preferred experience:

• Commercial overhead door installation or service
• Industrial door systems
• Rolling steel doors
• Sectional overhead doors
• Commercial door operators
• Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
• Preventive maintenance
• Construction, industrial maintenance, millwright, electrical, HVAC, or similar mechanical trades
  

Previous overhead-door experience is strongly preferred; however, we will consider candidates with strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting experience who are willing and able to learn commercial door systems.

Requirements:

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass requirements necessary to obtain access to Fort Hood.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and diagnostic equipment.
• Comfortable working at heights and around large commercial/industrial equipment.
• Ability to lift and handle heavy components as part of a two-person team when required.
• Ability to read work orders and follow written procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time.
• Safety-conscious and able to follow company and government procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and other technicians.

Our Fort Hood work includes everything from routine preventive maintenance to complex repairs of large commercial and industrial overhead door systems. Technicians must be willing to investigate the actual cause of a problem and complete repairs safely and correctly.
