What are the responsibilities and job description for the COOK position at Steele Memorial Medical Center?
Steele Memorial Medical Center is seeking a devoted PRN cook to assist in our Dietary department. We serve a close-knit community with a strong emphasis on building lasting relationships with our patients, staff, and community members.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Current Idaho Safety and Food Handling Exam or Servsafe Food Handlers Certification upon date of hire or within 90 days of employment
Job Duties:
- Follows therapeutic diet menus and recipes.
- Ensures that foods are stored, cooked, held and cooled to the appropriate temperatures.
- Records temperatures in department.
- Able to meet the standards established by department policy for the appearance of meal trays.
- Able to meet the standards established by Federal and State Food Code for food temperatures and palatability.
- Operates machinery used in peeling, shredding, slicing, straining, and mixing various foods.
- Assists with training new employees within the department.
- Makes sure all condiments, desserts, breakfast items, etc. are stocked.
- Prepares coffee and tea for use in employees' dining cafeteria.
- Adheres to organizational, departmental, and regulatory guidelines for dress code and hygiene.
- Follows general kitchen safety and sanitation procedures. Knows the location of the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Responsible for receiving and storing food deliveries.
- When appropriate, places food orders with venders.
- Adheres to facility policies and procedures and participates in facility quality improvement and safety programs.
- Follows cleaning schedules and maintains a clean, hazard-free work area.
- Participates in department/facility meetings, as required.
- Responsible for sweeping, moping and taking out garbage.
- Organizes, prepares and serves foods for patients, guests, visitors, staff, physicians and special functions in an appropriate, attractive and safe manner.
- Responsible for working with the Dietary Manager in the preparation and execution food related events for various organizational events.
