About Steel Tool & Engineering

We are a trusted aerospace manufacturer known for precision machining, complex fabrication, and welded assemblies. Our AS9100 certification and NADCAP accreditation reflect our commitment to exceptional quality and compliance in every step of production.

Day in the Life

Morning starts with a review of engineering packages—prints, models, and specs—mapping out tooling requirements and machining sequences. You’ll set up CNC and manual equipment, machine components to tight tolerances, and assemble jigs, fixtures, and dies. Throughout the day, you’ll verify conformance with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMMs, documenting results and communicating updates to engineering and production. When tooling shows wear, you diagnose, repair, and return it to production-ready condition. You’ll contribute to Kaizen and root-cause activities, maintain 5S standards, and keep safety front and center. The role includes repetitive tasks with few breaks and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

What You’ll Do
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and specifications to define tooling needs.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and finish tools using CNCs, manual mills/lathes, grinders, and hand tools.
  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machines to produce precision tooling components.
  • Inspect to print using precision metrology devices, including CMMs, ensuring dimensional accuracy.
  • Repair and maintain tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures to extend service life and reliability.
  • Plan operations: determine sequences, setups, workholding, and methods for efficient output.
  • Drive continuous improvement through problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
  • Document changes, update setup sheets, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Follow safety procedures and sustain a clean, organized, 5S-compliant work area.
Qualifications
  • Strong CNC and manual machining capability in a precision environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with deep understanding of fits, tolerances, and machine tooling.
  • Comfortable reading CAD drawings; CAM programming experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with metrology tools and measurement techniques.
  • Resourceful problem-solver able to troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and consistency in build and assembly.
  • Clear communicator with engineers, machinists, and production personnel.
  • Tool & Die apprenticeship, Journeyman credential, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3–5 years in a tool room or precision machining setting preferred.

Physical/Work Conditions: Repetitive tasks with few breaks; ability to lift 50 lbs.
