Job Summary:
We are seeking a foundational Quality Engineer to establish, build, and maintain our quality program. In this role, you will transition our shop floor from informal checks to a structured, data-driven Quality Management System (QMS). This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial engineer to evaluate and formalize existing quality processes and design new ones from the ground up, establish company-wide inspection standards, and instill a lasting culture of quality company-wide.
General Responsibilities:
• Review BOM and product fabrication drawings and develop review procedures.
• Draft baseline Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual inspection guides.
• Define incoming material, in-process, and final gate inspection workflows.
• Identify, purchase, and log necessary measurement gauges and testing equipment.
• Assist with tracking maintenance and calibration checks for production equipment.
• Track defects, rework, root causes, corrective actions, and associated costs.
• Coordinate with engineering, sales, purchasing, and production departments to ensure efficient production and prevent manufacturing disruptions.
• Assist in developing and implementing practical quality control policies and procedures.
• Evaluate production limitations and advise ways to streamline processes.
• Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to reduce errors and improve efficiency.
• Train and coach shop floor personnel on quality standards, inspection methods, and self-check procedures.
• Implement basic problem-solving frameworks to fix and prevent recurring defects.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, degree in a related field, or extensive hands-on quality management experience.
Experience:
3 years in manufacturing, with exposure to building or scaling quality frameworks. Process improvements and implementing methods to prevent defects and improve quality.
• Proven track record of creating order out of chaos without a pre-existing playbook.
• Strong understanding of basic manual inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
• Strong understanding of ISO 9001 requirements.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, work order routings, and audit processes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to introduce new rules to an established workforce.
• Ability to build simple, practical systems that match a small business budget and pace.
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of individuals both internally and externally.
• Strong technical aptitude.
• General knowledge and experience in manufacturing.
• Proficient in CAD (Solidworks and AutoCAD), MS Word and Excel, ERP systems (Infor Visual preferred), and have a general computer aptitude.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to travel on a limited basis.
• Must have U.S. work authorization.
Working Environment:
• Office/manufacturing environment. While performing duties of this job, employee has prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
