Work Location: Ashland, VA (Base location with extensive territory travel north along the I-95 corridor up to Southern MD)
The Role: Territory Manager
As a Territory Manager at Steel Services, Inc., you are the face of our 80-year legacy. You will be a technical consultant and a natural at maintaining and building the unbreakable, face-to-face relationships that are essential to our business.
This role requires understanding complex client needs, and closing long-term contracts with job shops, structural fabricators, and OEMs.
What You'll Do:
- Team Coordination: Work seamlessly with the Inside Sales, Processing, and Logistics teams to ensure flawless order fulfillment and exceptional service.
- Consult & Hunt: Grow sales and expand our existing relationships with key accounts through regular, in-person visits while actively prospecting for new business within the territory.
- Be the Expert: Provide consultative sales support to customers on material specifications and value-added processing capabilities (plasma/oxy-fuel cutting, sawing, punching, shearing, high-end finishing, etc.), and delivery logistics.
- Own the Outcome: Manage the entire sales cycle—from initial quote and technical specification to sourcing, order placement, and confirming timely delivery. The commitment to quality service you and your teammates provide (in both the best of circumstances and the worst) determines whether our customers keep coming back.
- Market Intelligence: Provide honest, direct feedback to management regarding market conditions, competitive activities, and evolving customer needs to drive company strategy.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Frequent travel within your territory to meet with current and prospective customers.
- Developing and executing strategic plans for growing existing accounts and securing new business.
- Providing on-site quotes for stock items and custom, cut-to-size parts.
- Coordinating with Inside Sales to enter, track, and manage orders in the fulfillment system.
- Sourcing non-stocked items to meet specialized customer requirements.
- Coordinating with appropriate departments in the timely resolution of customer complaints.
- Managing customer relationships and communicating throughout the order fulfillment process.
Requirements and Qualifications
Requirements:
- 2 years of previous Sales or Territory Management experience.
- Ambitious, competitive, and self-motivated mindset with a proven ability to close deals.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills (essential for quoting and pricing).
- Exceptional oral and written interpersonal/communication skills, suitable for executive-level client meetings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Location: Ashland, Virginia, 23005 (Reliable commute or planned relocation before starting work required.)
