Steel Manufacturing & Warehouse Company is one of the oldest carbon steel service centers in the Midwest. Established in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1921, Steel Manufacturing and Warehouse has evolved into one of the Midwest’s premier carbon flat rolled and plate centers.
We are looking for a Fabrication Manager who oversees day-to-day shop operations in the fabrication department, ensuring production is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.will work with our team.
This role is located at our Kansas City, KS facility.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, and manage all fabrication activities to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
- Lead supervisors, machine operators, and general warehouse staff; provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Coordinate with multiple departments to support workflow and resolve issues.
- Monitor quality throughout fabrication and ensure products meet internal standards and customer specifications.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices, equipment safety, housekeeping, and compliance with OSHA and company policies.
- Develop and maintain production schedules and manage resource allocation based on workload, capacity, and deadlines.
- Track productivity, rework, scrap, downtime, and on-time completion; implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage shop equipment and preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and maintain operational readiness.
- Support hiring, onboarding, cross-training, and workforce development to build a skilled and reliable team.
- Control departmental costs, monitor material usage, and support job costing and profitability objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, industrial technology, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in steel fabrication, welding, or metal manufacturing, including 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and safe use of fabrication equipment and tools.
- Experience with production planning, labor scheduling, inventory coordination, and equipment maintenance.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
