Position:

Manufacturing Engineer – New London, Wisconsin

Reporting Relationships:
The Manufacturing Engineer - reports to the Sr Manufacturing Engineer

Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer supports the plant on roll forming tooling changes, new machine installs, machine troubleshooting, redesigns, and repairs, and upkeep of tooling and equipment. This role can also lead or support plant projects, working either alongside third-party contractors or fully in-house, and offers the opportunity to grow into robotics-related work within the plant as competence is demonstrated in the core responsibilities.

Responsibilities

1.       Project & Capital Management:

·         Take in-house projects from concept to completion through the Steel King process, including cost justification/analysis, 3D modeling, print creation and ordering, in-house building, and handoff to production and maintenance.

·         Working with outside contractors, manage capital projects from implementation through completion, meeting timelines and budget while minimizing impact to production.

·         Assist with developing the yearly capital plan based on plant needs and improvements.

·         Organize equipment shutdown schedules for tooling changes to minimize impact to production.

·         Coordinate manufacturing launch of new/revised production, including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.

2.       Technical & Tooling:

·         Serve as the plant's subject matter expert on roll forming, providing technical support and expertise.

·         Design and print parts using a 3D printer to support tooling, fixtures, and production needs.

·         Develop, organize, and maintain tracking and monitoring of roll forming tooling/die sets to be used during capital projects.

·         Evaluate equipment failures and performance issues to identify root causes and recommend engineering solutions for repair, service, or replacement.

·         Support troubleshooting of Fanuc robotic systems within the plant and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

·         Keep records related to managing tooling/die budgets and yearly costs.

3.       Continuous Improvement:

·         Analyze machines and processes to identify waste and work with a team to drive improvements.

·         Participate in Kaizen events within the facility.

·         Develop and implement process controls, procedures, and inspection processes.

·         Understanding of lean manufacturing and techniques to implement it.

4.       Documentation & Standards

·         Read, analyze, and create documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

·         Develop manufacturing work standards through job analysis, best ergonomic practices, and process flow analysis.

·         Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

·         2 years of experience in related fields

·         3D Modeling Experience – Inventor Preferred

·         AutoCAD

·         Experience with Fanuc robots preferred, but not required

·         3D printing preferred, but not required

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Ability to establish working relationships with all employees to project a positive and teambuilding attitude throughout.

·         Ability to communicate in a professional, respectful, and effective manner in both written and oral communication with internal and external customers.

·         Occasionally may need to work other shifts and overtime to complete work as required. (1-3 per year)

·         Occasionally may need to be able to provide remote assistance to second shift.

·         Ability to prepare technical reports for documenting issues/changes to equipment.

·         Ability to manage projects for implementing changes and improvements.

·         Adhere to company safety policies, including wearing appropriate PPE.

·         Work in conditions where dirt, fumes, lubricants, etc. may be present;

·         Handle lifting of materials and tools up to 50 lbs.

·         Ability to work on aerial lift platforms on rare occasions.

·         Use critical thinking skills to effectively solve problems and make sound decisions.

·         Ability to use power tools as needed. Training will be provided if needed.
