What are the responsibilities and job description for the HEAT TREAT OPERATOR position at Steel Industries Inc?
1.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
This position involves all aspects of the heat-treating process. Accountable for efficiently and accurately controlling furnaces and quenching equipment, which are used to change the physical properties of metals and metal objects. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to :
- Set up and adjust controls of heat-treat lines, including regulating temperatures, atmospheres, and cycle times based on engineering specifications including loading and unloading of steel parts
- Perform hardness tests (Brinell) and dimensional inspections on parts.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and manipulators to move material through the manufacturing process.
- Continuously monitor furnace status and document precise data on temperatures, heating durations, and removal times for compliance and traceability.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshoot basic machinery malfunctions, and assist with equipment repairs as needed.
- Practice good housekeeping (5S) to keep work areas clean and organized.
- Follows company policies and procedures.
- Is responsible for knowing the quality policy and having a basic understanding of all work instructions appropriate to the position.
- Other job duties as assigned.
2.0 REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Knowledge
- Knowledge of Heat-Treating fundamentals
- Knowledge of basic math skills and the ability to read a tape measure
2.2 Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to interact positively with others
- Must possess great attention to detail and the ability to follow directions
- Must be able to work under the pressure of schedules
2.3 Education
- High School graduate or equivalent work experience
2.4 Experience
- Previous experience helpful but not required
3.0 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sitting, squatting, walking, bending 8-10 hours per day
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in different weather conditions
- Exposure to heat from furnaces on a daily basis.
Monday - Friday 7a to 4:30p
Some Saturdays (4 hours)
