What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mill Tech- Melt Shop position at Steel Dynamics, Inc?
Responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in the EAF Melt Area. Works closely with the department Mechanical/Electrical Engineers, Maintenance Coordinators, Millwrights, Electricians, Shift Supervisors, and Operators to drive the department production goals. Focus will be on safety and assisting operations as needed to ensure uptime and reliability.
General EAF knowledge a plus a basic understanding of PLC’s, HMI’s, and industrial equipment that will aid in troubleshooting with the EAF team
Understanding of hydraulics, grease systems, and pneumatics
Fabrication skills that include torching, welding, and blueprint reading
Experience with Windows and Microsoft office applications

- Assist shift and day mechanical team with preventative maintenance, rounds, and breakdowns while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Good communication skills with an ability to work in a team environment.
- Rebuild furnace components such as Slag Doors, Temp Takers, Remote Sanders, and Door Pushers.
- Perform other tasks as needed by the department.
- Excellent safety and attendance record
- Ability to operate a forklift, aerial lift, and skid steer
- Professionalism when dealing with co-workers, outside vendors, and contractors
- Self-driven and motivated
