The Laser Operator is responsible for operating flat laser cutting machines to process steel and other metal components in a steel fabrication environment. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to ensure high-quality cuts while maximizing efficiency and safety. This position will have experience with laser cutting equipment, blueprint reading, and precision measuring tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Operate flat laser cutting machines to cut steel components according to specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings to determine cutting requirements.
• Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and report issues.
• Perform basic preventative maintenance on laser equipment.
• Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues.
• Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to inspect finished parts for accuracy.
• Operates forklift to retrieve materials for laser cutting operations.
• Accurately log job information into ERP computer system.
• Accurately fill out required operations and quality paperwork.
• Work closely with co-workers to improve laser cutting processes and productivity.
• Follow company policies, safety protocols, and quality assurance guidelines to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience and/or Training:
• Minimum 1 year of experience and/or training in flat laser cutting operations.
• Must possess proficiency in math (adding, subtracting, converting decimals, and fractions)
• Must possess proficiency in measurement skills (tape measure, protractor, height gauge, and caliper)
• Must possess mechanical aptitude
• Must possess proficiency in reading flat blueprints.
• Must be able to obtain internal forklift certification.
• Knowledge of reading, writing, and understanding work instructions, work orders, or customer specifications

Experience and/or Training:
• Prior experience with Mitsubishi and/or Trumpf flat lasers.
• Prior lifting device experience (forklift, cranes, jibs, hoists, magnets, etc.)
Physical and Mental Demands
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and move between work areas.
• Regularly required to talk and listen, as well as climb, balance, and reach above shoulder level.
• Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
• The employee must be able to lift and or carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.

Working Environment
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment where loud noise exposure is regular and frequent. Additionally, there is a regular exposure on the production floor to dust, metal debris, changes in ambient temperature, and requires the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
