What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teacher Assistant position at Steamboat Island Community Preschool?
Steamboat Island Community Preschool is a nonprofit school in Olympia, WA. We are looking for a part time Teacher Assistant to join our team, starting September 2026.
About Our School:
- 2 Classes: 1 class in the AM with 4-5 Year Olds and 1 class in the PM with 2.5-4 Year Olds
- Small class size (12 kids per AM class and 10 kids per PM class)

- Play/child-led education style
- September 2026-June 2027
Job Duties & Expectations:
- Help manage classroom with strategies defined by the Lead Teacher
- Assist children in regulating their emotions
- Maintain and clean the classroom during working hours
- Help lead children in various activities
- Assist in circle time with students
- Help prep for various activities
- Promote a welcoming environment for children and families
- Prepare snack
- Help with bathroom needs (occasional diaper or pull-up changing)
- Work as a team
Minimum Qualifications
- Clean Background Check
- Preferred history working with children
- Reliable Transportation
- CPR / First Aid certification preferred
- Food handler's permit preferred
Schedule
- Monday - Friday: 9am-12pm
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 9am-3:30pm
- 25.5 Hours Per Week
- $19/hr
- 12 sick days September through June
Hiring Process:

After the first review of the candidates and associated materials, candidates will be invited to participate in an oral board interview taking place during the weekend of August 15/16, 2026.
Offer of employment is subject to the candidate submitting required documents, interview, and passing the background check.
