The Steadman Philippon Research Institute’s (SPRIs) Mission is to unlock the secrets of healing, find cures, and enhance lives through global leadership in regenerative medicine, scientific research, innovation, and education. SPRI is comprised of several distinct departments that are committed to enhancing patient lives and keeping people active. Scientists, researchers, and technicians not only conduct science within their departments but also in collaborative, cross-disciplinary projects across the institute and with physicians at The Steadman Clinic. The result is a multifaceted research organization committed to team science.
The Education and Public Outreach Committee (EPOC) was established by Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) to inspire the next generation of scientists through exposure to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Our objective is to offer local Colorado students exposure to a world-class scientific research program and hopefully light the spark for STEM. Our SPRI team offers laboratory tours, scientific presentations, mentoring of student projects and support of school science fairs. With our three-tiered program, EPOC is designed to reach students from 5th grade through high school. Since its founding in 2011, SPRI has worked with over 4,000 local students
POSITION SUMMARY
Administer the K-12 EPOC education program attended by local grade school through to high school students during the summer and school year. Includes organizing and delivering on-site visits and summer camps as well as schoolroom outreach. Coordinate on-site student visits with research and scientific staff schedules. Organize course completion celebrations. Maintains personal commitment to the Steadman Clinic/ Steadman Philippon Research Institute mission and values.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement EPOC education programs: Science Club, Summer Scholars, Fifth Grade Tours, Science Fairs, Scientific Summit participation, and shadow opportunities.
- Create and establish relationships to ensure EPOC’s success (TSC/SPRI leadership, surgeons and staff, school districts, Aspen Hospital, Vail Health, and STEM non-profit organizations).
- Collaborate with Company leadership and Vail EPOC Co-Mgrs to design, develop and implement additional educational programs in the Roaring Fork Valley and surrounding counties that align with Company’s Education and Public Outreach Committee (EPOC) goals.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Implement and maintain quality assurance programs, including the dissemination of exit surveys after each program, and implement any recommended changes thought to be in the best interest of EPOC.
- Raise internal and public awareness of EPOC programming and events. (**See below)
- Assist Vail EPOC Co-Mgr with Alumni Association.
- Work with Company leadership to create/update fundraising brochure and tailored proposals for potential donors.
- Bi-weekly Updates to EPOC Coordinator (copy EPOC Chair).
- Submit program/event budget/expenses to EPOC Coordinator.
** All publications must first go through and be approved by Mrktg VP and EPOC Chair. (ex. Social media posts, interviews, grants, abstracts, etc)
Requirements:- College degree and/or equivalent work experience in a science related field preferred
- Aptitude for engaging and inspiring students in STEM science related curriculum
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Engaging and courteous communication manner required
- Effectively manages priorities in a professional manner with significant attention to detail
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously
- Trustworthy, discreet, and as necessary, readily available at short notice.
- Familiarity with and knowledge of medical research terminology helpful.
- Excellent organization, communication both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills required.
- Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
- Represent The Steadman Philippon Research Institute in a mature, professional manner at all times.
