Steadfast Transportation Inc
Newcastle, WY Contractor
POSTED ON 10/15/2026 CLOSED ON 10/24/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Delivery Driver position at Steadfast Transportation Inc?

Independent Contractor Opportunity (As Needed) – USPS Contract Delivery Route 827B5, Newcastle, WY

SteadFast Transportation Inc. holds USPS Contract Delivery Service route HCR 827B5. Elizabeth “Liz” Childress, an independent contractor operating the route under SteadFast, seeks an independent contractor to provide as-needed delivery services. You will be contracting directly with Liz Childress, not with SteadFast Transportation Inc. This is not employment. The contractor runs their own business, controls how the work is done, and is paid a contract rate, not an hourly wage.

As-Needed Engagement
Services are requested on an as-needed basis, such as relief coverage, vacancies or volume surges. There is no guaranteed number of days or minimum amount of work. When Liz Childress offers a delivery day, the contractor may accept or decline it. Once a day is accepted, the contractor must perform it in accordance with the USPS contract schedule.

Scope of Services (per the USPS Statement of Work)

  • Case (sort) mail for approximately 252 delivery points into delivery sequence at the Newcastle, WY Post Office.
  • Load, transport and deliver all classes of mail along the USPS-established line of travel (approx. 36.2 round-trip miles).
  • Deliver parcels and accountable mail (Certified, Registered, Express) that require a signature or don’t fit the box. USPS requires deviations of up to ½ mile (1 mile round trip) for these items.
  • Collect outgoing mail from boxes along the route and turn it in at the Newcastle Post Office.
  • Use USPS-issued scanners and keys as directed by USPS, and return them at the end of each trip.
  • Perform the CDS duties listed in SOW Section B.3.l, such as mark-up and forwarding and reporting box changes to the USPS Administrative Official.

USPS Contract Schedule
USPS sets the service frequency and timetable, not Liz Childress or SteadFast. On days the contractor accepts, the route runs on the USPS schedule. The route itself operates daily except Sundays and federal holidays (USPS frequency K7). The USPS schedule provides for casing from 8:00–10:00 a.m., departure at 10:00 a.m., and estimated route completion around 2:10 p.m. Within the USPS requirements, the contractor decides their own methods, pace and sequence of work. Faster, more efficient operators finish sooner.

Contractor-Furnished Equipment and Costs
The contractor provides and pays for all of the following:

  • One dependable vehicle with at least 120 cubic feet of usable load space. AWD or 4WD is recommended for Wyoming conditions.
  • A roof-mounted warning light visible from all directions, used during deliveries.
  • A cell phone for two-way communication with USPS.
  • Fuel, maintenance and repairs.
  • Vehicle liability insurance meeting Wyoming minimums, plus any other coverage the contractor’s business requires.

Independent Contractor

  • The contractor operates as a self-employed business and is free to offer services to other clients, as long as the USPS schedule is met on accepted days.
  • The contractor is responsible for their own taxes (Form 1099), business licenses and permits.
  • No training, supervision or uniforms are required by Liz Childress. Uniforms are not required by USPS either.

USPS Eligibility Requirements

  • Must obtain USPS non-sensitive clearance, which includes a background check, fingerprints and a 5-year driving record (SOW B.5). Approximately $45.00.
  • At least 2 years of driving experience and a valid driver’s license.
  • Basic competence in spoken and written English, as required by USPS for CDS routes.
  • Must be able to handle parcels up to 70 lbs and operate in all Wyoming weather.
  • Must comply with USPS rules: no weapons, alcohol or drugs while performing services, and mail must be kept secured at all times.
