What To Expect As a Patient Access Clerk
- Welcome patients and visitors to the department by greeting patient and visitors in person and on the telephone, answers inquiries or refers questions to other staff members when needed.
- Conduct patient interviews in a confidential manner. Verify demographic and financial/insurance information with patient or patient’s representative, updating when necessary.
- Verify insurance information, benefits, and eligibility for patients receiving care with our hospital. Coordinate with utilization review when necessary.
- Ensure authorization numbers are obtained for scheduled out-patient services; such as MRIs, CTs, Nuc Med, Stress-Tests, etc.
- Escort in-patient to his or her room. Directs out-patients to the correct department(s), escorting them when necessary.
- Work with surgical scheduling to pre-register patients for ODS procedures.
- Reconcile information systems data by editing registrations performed by support ancillary service registrars.
- Create new providers in the Clinical Dictionary when presented with an order from a provider that has never used our facility for out-patient services; complete with Provider Type, Name, Address, Phone and Fax Numbers, and NPI Number.
- Perform semi-annual OIG Reviews on all Providers to check for infractions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school student or equivalent.
- Basic office skills such as keyboarding and filing.
- 3 months to 1 year of experience.
