Position Summary

Our Portable Fire Extinguisher Technicians are responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of various types of portable fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10 standards, local codes, and company policies. This role requires a strong understanding of fire safety principles, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent customer experience initiative. Our team of technicians will primarily work independently and occasionally as part of a team. To ensure the safety and compliance of our clients' facilities and people, our technicians receive rigorous training. Through developing competence and confidence, our technicians will further embody our culture of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Understand monthly, annual, maintenance, and hydro-static testing intervals and requirements for all types of portable fire extinguishers.
  • Inspect, tag, and log fire extinguishers according to regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct minor repairs and ensure functional operating capacities of fire extinguishers.
  • Safely operate a company vehicle and adhere to a strict schedule.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and arrive at all scheduled appointments on time.
  • Identify and report deficiencies or code violations to clients.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and repairs.
  • Educate clients on fire extinguisher use and maintenance.
  • Manage and maintain service vehicle inventory and tools.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer experience and uphold strong client relationships.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Demonstrate excellent understanding of client relations software.
  • Execute Installation of extinguishers on various surfaces (drywall, concrete, wood, metal beams, etc).
  • Understand processes of invoicing, collecting payments, and communicating with customers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications preferred.
  • NFPA 10 certification or ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50lbs).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use basic tools (drills, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency in using basic computer software for record-keeping.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience as a fire extinguisher technician or in a related field.
  • Familiarity with various fire suppression systems.
  • Knowledge of local and state fire codes.
  • Organizational skills and ability to solve problems.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Willingness to learn and ask questions.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and electronic devices.
  • Ability to take direction and be a team player.

Work Environment

  • This position primarily involves conducting inspections at a multitude of different businesses and industries.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
  • Daily driving and safely managing a company vehicle.
  • Driving and conducting inspections throughout various cities and businesses.
  • Mornings and afternoons spent at Statewide Fire Protection Headquarters.
