Stateline Literacy Council (SLC) – Beloit Wisconsin: SLC has served the non-English speaking communities of Rock County WI and northern Winnebago County IL for 54 years. We have five part-time paid teachers, ten tutoring volunteers, two part-time administrators, and a volunteer board of seven members. We are located in the Beloit Public Library with an office and two new classrooms. During the 2025-2026 school year, 126 students from 14 countries attended three levels of English, GED, and Citizenship classes with us. At least 95% of our students are Hispanic.
Description: We are seeking two to three passionate and creative Instructors to plan and implement weekly lessons and activities for adult students. Instructors encourage learners by establishing their learning goals, working on those goals during the semester, and providing positive feedback to keep students motivated. Our Classes tend to be super fun and high energy with many opportunities for celebrating student success and community building.
Hours: Regular hours are 7-8 per week, which includes 2 hours per class (2 classes per week) and two hours for class preparations. Extra hours may be added for staff meetings, curriculum development, and student evaluations. Teachers can take responsibility for one or more classes.
Sessions: Fall classes begin the second week of September and end in early May. Class sessions are 10:00-12:00 in the mornings or 6:00-8:00 in the evenings, two days per week.
Qualifications:
● Proven ability and flexability to work with adults in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural environment. Spanish-speaking proficiency is valuable but not required.
● Bachelor's degree, a certificate in a field related to education or experience teaching.
● TESOL/CELTA certification preferred or willingness to enroll in a certification program upon initial hire.
● Exceptional communication, organization, and innovative teaching skills.
● Experience and familiarity with communicative teaching approaches, managing a multi-level classroom, and technology enriched teaching.
● Extremely professional, punctual, and personable.
Duties:
● Plan and implement adult ELL/ESL lesson plans, two classes per week, 2 hours per class.
● Help students to set and track realistic learning goals throughout the semester.
● Use a variety of teaching techniques and approaches to keep students engaged and motivated in reaching their goals.
● Work with the Stateline Literacy Council teaching team to refine and implement an English / Worksite Literacy curriculum and incorporate computer skills into English Classes.
● Monitor students' progress through attendance records and regular assessments and maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance and testing records.
● Provide strong and consistent support to learners to build and maintain retention.
● Effectively work with volunteers and interns to support student learning.
● There may be other (fun) tasks that teachers contribute to like participating in fundraising events, potlucks, graduations, registration days, and other agency functions.
Physical Demands:
● While performing the duties of this job, the ELL Instructor stands or sits in front of a class, uses hands and fingers to write on the white board, and types/works with a computer.
● Vision requirements include close and distant vision.
● Hearing requirements include being able to hear face-to-face and large group situations.

Performance Evaluation:
Employment is subject to ongoing positive performance evaluations, funding, and student registration levels. This position is grant-funded and may have hours reduced or terminated subject to the availability of funds or if English class size drops below 6. Advanced notice will be given in such a situation.
