What are the responsibilities and job description for the Orientation Leader for International Students (available to drive) Summer 2026 position at State University of New York, Cortland?
/Duties
The Orientation Leader for International Students (OL), together with the Orientation Coordinator, will be responsible for helping approximately 35-50 new international students adjust to the campus, Cortland community, and culture by creating a welcoming and informative environment during the week prior to the beginning of the semester. The Orientation Leader must be fully available during the entire orientation period: August 25 – 29, 2026. Orientation training will be held on Monday, August 24. The OL will not be able to hold any additional employment during this time period.
- The OL will be required to drive a 12 or a 7- passenger van or accompany the coordinator or SUNY Cortland transportation provider to the Syracuse or Ithaca airports, or Cortland/Syracuse bus station to welcome new students.
- The OL will accompany and aid the students on shopping trips to local stores.
- The OL will help the new students become familiar with the campus, including setting up SIM cards for cellphones, Wi-Fi in the residence Halls, obtaining their university IDs, providing informing on student support services, visiting the library, locating bus stops and other important campus locations, and learning the campus procedures.
- The OL will also be required to help students move into their housing and take students to SUNY Cortland Orientation Week sessions, evening events and meals.
- After orientation the Orientation Leader will be required to provide written feedback to the Orientation Coordinator reflecting on the International Student Welcome Week.
- All the activities and some of the meals are included during orientation week. If needed, we can arrange housing during the orientation week. Students that are residing on-campus in the Fall, will be able to move in early into their assigned room/apartment.

Required Qualifications
- Must be a current SUNY Cortland student

Preferred Qualifications
The candidate must be a mature internationally-minded undergraduate or graduate SUNY Cortland student with an appreciation for, and commitment to, diversity. The candidate must be in good academic and judicial standing.
