What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor, Hydrology position at State University of New York at Plattsburgh?
Expected to begin in Fall 2027, this 10-month, tenure-track position is housed within the Center for Earth & Environmental Science (CEES) and focuses on hydrology and Earth surface processes. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service at an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education, with opportunities to contribute to the Master’s program in Natural Resources and Ecology. CEES is an interdisciplinary department whose faculty bring expertise in the physical, natural, and social dimensions of Earth and environmental sciences. We seek a candidate who is committed to collaborative research and teaching and who will contribute to our strong tradition of rigorous experiential learning and locally and regionally focused research opportunities.
CEES maintains active partnerships with government agencies and environmental NGOs throughout the Adirondack region and Lake Champlain Basin. The Lake Champlain Research Institute, housed on campus, provides additional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Together with our unique geographic setting, these partnerships create a vibrant environment for applied and experiential learning in the Earth and environmental sciences, supported by numerous long-term, maintained field sites. CEES courses and research projects take full advantage of the diverse landscapes, ecosystems, and environmental challenges of the Lake Champlain–Adirondack region.
We are part of the School of Arts & Sciences which provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We train students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively and are broadly educated. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs, and practices.
