What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief of Staff position at State Representative Justin Cochran?
An Exceptional Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to serve as a trusted partner to a State Representative and build something meaningful from the ground up. As Chief of Staff, you won't just manage an office—you'll shape it. You'll have the autonomy to develop systems, build a team, and directly impact the lives of thousands of constituents while gaining unparalleled exposure to every facet of government work.
If you're a self-starter who thrives on independence, loves solving complex problems, and wants to see the direct impact of your work in your community, this role offers a front-row seat to democracy in action.
Why This Role is Unique
Build and Lead a Growing Team. You'll have the opportunity to recruit, hire, and mentor future staff members. You'll also create and manage a district internship program, shaping the next generation of public servants. This isn't a static role—it's a chance to architect a high-performing team that reflects your leadership style.
Extraordinary Breadth of Experience. Few positions offer exposure to such a wide range of skills in one role. In a single week, you might:
- Brief the Representative on emerging policy issues
- Resolve a constituent's urgent casework issue
- Plan a town hall for 200 community members
- Draft talking points for a press interview
- Build relationships with local mayors and civic leaders
- Manage office operations and budget
This diversity means you'll develop a remarkably versatile skill set that translates across government, nonprofit, and private sector careers.
Be a Trusted Partner. As the Representative's senior advisor, you'll provide strategic direction on district priorities and operational decisions. Your insights and recommendations will help shape legislative priorities and community initiatives. You won't be buried in bureaucracy—you'll be at the table where decisions are made.
Make a Tangible Difference. Every day, you'll see the real-world impact of public service: helping a veteran access benefits, connecting a small business owner with resources, bringing community concerns to the statehouse, or organizing events that strengthen civic engagement. This work matters, and you'll feel it.
