The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE – Water Supply Specialist located at the DNR Green Bay Service Center in Greenbay, Wisconsin.
Position Summary
This position works as part of a team of experienced environmental professionals, dedicated to ensuring safe drinking water for the protection of public health in Wisconsin. This position is primarily responsible for conducting annual inspections of small public drinking water systems and assisting with regulation of small drinking water systems in Northeast WI.
65%- Conduct annual site visits at small public drinking water systems, as assigned, in accordance with s. NR 809.31 (1) (d), Wis. Adm. Code. Visually inspect each of the water system elements, specifically, the water source (well) and appurtenances, treatment, storage, sample taps, and distribution system. Identify any sanitary defects per rule requirement. Recommend corrective actions and appropriate deadlines. Explain findings to system owner/operator. Document findings. Distribute copies to the system owner/operator and DNR. Provide system owner/operator with a corrective action verification form, as needed. Train summer interns who will also be conducting Annual Site Visits at seasonal systems. Plan ahead for the annual site visits by mapping daily and weekly routes. Contact system owners/operators to make appointments, determine operating hours, or obtain additional information. Notify supervisor of weekly plans and routes. File ASV forms.
10%- Conduct Level 2 Assessments at small public drinking water systems when there is a confirmed Total Coliform positive sample result, as needed.
5%- Collect signed Public Notifications from small public water systems, either in person or electronically.
10%-Violations reports - Run the report and follow up with the DNR rep to determine next action steps (NON or reminder or corrective action).
10%-Call, email, or text small system owners to remind them to sample for bacteria and/or nitrates and remind them to do seasonal start-up monitoring and reporting, provide lab slips to them if needed; order and ship or deliver sample bottles, as needed.
The selected candidate must be able to drive a state vehicle. Candidates with three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years, or who have an OWI/DUI violation within the past year are barred from driving state vehicles.
Salary Information
22.13 per hour
Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.
In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment. At this time, those who are unvaccinated are subject to weekly COVID-19 testing protocols.

Qualifications
Required:
- Education and work experience in public health or natural science/environmental based field.
- Coursework or work experience in some of the following: public health sanitation, hydrogeology, environmental sampling, chemistry, groundwater chemistry, geology, microbiology, public health.
- Ability to accurately enter data into databases and electronic spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Excel), and experience with data analysis, word processing, and field sampling.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to communicate often with DNR-Reps and Supervisor via phone, text, or email.
- Experience with and ability to use Microsoft Outlook for scheduling site visits, meetings, and leave time.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a minimum of 2 years driving experience.
- Experience working and communicating within a team environment
- Experience scheduling, organizing, handling multiple priorities at one time
- Excellent customer service experience
